1. What is this Movement?
Teams of Our Lady is an international movement to enrich marriage spirituality. The aim of the movement is to help couples live out a married spirituality and to discover the full richness of the sacrament of marriage.
This movement is specifically tailored for Catholic couples of any age. Teams can include newly married and couples celebrating anniversaries of any number of years.
2. What is a team?
A Team is made up of five to seven couples and a Spiritual Director/Priest. Meeting monthly in each other’s homes, Teams provide support and encouragement to the couple in their spiritual journey and daily lives.
The team becomes a close community. The Team couples inspire one another through their living examples of faith, and share with one another their struggles and successes, on their way to holiness. Couples grow in communication and spirituality through life in a team.
3. What are the Endeavors?
Team members strive to live out Endeavours, which assist in their spiritual formation as a couple and individuals.
The Endeavours are slowly introduced over the course of many meetings and are easy to incorporate into daily life.
Here are the six Endeavours:
- Regular listening to the Word of God
- Daily Personal Prayer
- Conjugal and Family Prayer
- The Monthly Sit-down
- The Rule of Life
- The Annual Retreat
4. How’s a typical meeting?
A Team is made up of 5-7 couples with a spiritual counselor, who meet once a month in each other’s homes. The team of couples encourages and supports each other in their faith journey. They build lifelong friendships that are crucial in their walk with Jesus.
The couples meet with a simple meal and fellowship. They celebrate each other’s happiness and support each other’s low times. They share scripture study, prayer, as well as discussions about married life, family dynamics and faith topics. They support and encourage each other to follow the Endeavours and witness to each other with confidential advice and prayer.
The Team meeting is a time where you can place Christ at the heart of your life and journey together as a couple in deepened married spirituality.
5. Who can participate?
Couples of any age that are married in the Catholic Church. All marriages struggle at times but Teams of Our Lady is not designed for troubled marriages – there are good programs for that regard.
6. Can children attend Team meetings?
Teams of Our Lady is designed to strengthen the couple’s spiritual bond. To protect this dedicated time, monthly meetings should remain adult-focused and free of interruptions, though exceptions are typically made for infants. While children do not attend the formal meetings, they are a vital part of the community and are encouraged to join team social gatherings.
7. Is Teams of Our Lady approved by the Catholic Church?
Teams of Our Lady is a movement approved by the Vatican, holding a Decree of Recognition from the Pontifical Council for the Laity. This recognition followed the submission of key foundational documents, including the Charter and early study materials. The Movement emphasizes ongoing collaboration, maintaining communication with Bishops and Family Life offices in active dioceses. Our members, diverse as the global Catholic Church, are united by a shared desire to deepen their married spirituality through prayer.
8. How can I join?
Would you like to learn more about Teams of Our Lady? We’ll put you in contact with the Teams closest to your area. You’ll be able to learn more by attending an information session or by talking directly to one of our Teams of Our Lady members. If you would like to form a team, the best thing to do is to get a few other couples interested in joining as well! You just need 5-7 couples to form a new team. We will gladly start a team just about anywhere in Canada!
